Restoration &#8211; rooted yet called to respond.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.<br \/>\nJohn 14: 26<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div id=\"attachment_298\" style=\"width: 424px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-298\" class=\"size-full wp-image-298\" src=\"https:\/\/highlandlutheranchurch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/door_refermation.jpg\" alt=\"Door with Thesus\" width=\"414\" height=\"354\" srcset=\"https:\/\/highlandlutheranchurch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/door_refermation.jpg 414w, https:\/\/highlandlutheranchurch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/door_refermation-300x257.jpg 300w, https:\/\/highlandlutheranchurch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/door_refermation-351x300.jpg 351w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 414px) 100vw, 414px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-298\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">October 31, 2017<br \/>500 Year Reformation Anniversary<\/p><\/div>\n<p>October 31, 2017 marks the 500th Anniversary of Martin Luther posting his Ninety-Five Theses on the church door in Wittenberg, Germany, starting the Lutheran Reformation. \u00a0 We invite you to learn more and become involved\u00a0in the celebrations.<\/p>\n<p>We\u00a0have heard of the Ninety-Five Theses, but few of us have read them or even have a clear idea of what they say. \u00a0 And many other writings of Luther are more significant, including his &#8220;Sermon on Indulgences and Grace,&#8221; written to the congregations explaining his views.<\/p>\n<p>Join us at Highland Lutheran Church as we celebrate and learn what it means to be Lutheran in today&#8217;s world.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Ephesians 2:5-10 \u00a0(NIV)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>For it is by grace\u00a0you have been saved,\u00a0through faith\u2014and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God\u2014\u00a0<sup>9\u00a0<\/sup>not by works,\u00a0so that no one can boast.\u00a0<sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>For we are God\u2019s handiwork,\u00a0created\u00a0in Christ Jesus to do good works,\u00a0which God prepared in advance for us to do.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Luther and his friends were teachers of all types of people \u2013 from university students to pastors, bishops and regular congregants, so education is also important in our observance of this histories event with all Christian faiths.<\/p>\n<p>The Reformation is thought to have lasted for a few years, but its influence continues. It brought about divisions in the church Some of those involved responded in a variety of ways and some were hurtful. In observance of the Reformation, we need to find understanding, repentance as well as celebration and continue to remember it in our hearts for the future.<\/p>\n<p>Highland Lutheran Church plans to observe the Reformation in many ways.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The first Sunday of the month, our bulletin will include inserts with historical facts and accounts.<\/li>\n<li>A poster of the Lutheran Reformation, in context with the rest of the world, is being created and will be on display in the front of the chapel.<\/li>\n<li>Copies of Martin Luther\u2019s Small Catechism will be available, free for the taking.<\/li>\n<li>Our worship services will include special hymns to commutate this historical event.<\/li>\n<li>A booklet is being prepared for all families and individuals of \u201cBlessing and Prayers\u201d based on those in Martin Luther\u2019s Small Catechism.<\/li>\n<li>Our Sunday school children will be studying a youth based \u201ccomic book\u201d \u00a0type novel called \u201cPapa Luther.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>A poster will be developed by the Committee and will be on display later this year.<\/li>\n<li>Because we are called to be good stewards of this God given world, we are planning to have our youth plant a tree and\/or a rose in the spring of 2017.<\/li>\n<li>We plan to have films, discussions and Bible studies based on what occurred in the beginning of the Reformation and how we are reforming and responding even today.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><em><strong>Answers to the quiz:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Did Martin Luther use a hammer and nail to post the 95 Theses on the church door?<em>No, If he posted it on the door, he probably used wax not nails or a hammer.\u00a0\u00a0 He probably posted the 95 Theses in the mail to his Bishop, and in Latin.<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Could the general public read Martin Luther\u2019s 95 Theses?\u00a0Probably not.
